A little more insight into the things I love and enjoy.

Drinks: I’m not much of a drinker these days, although I am often tempted with a good Negroni or glass of champagne with a meal. I also enjoy trying intriguing sounding cocktails, anything with lychee or herbaceous. Also a big tea drinker; silver needle, matcha, saffron. I love the ritual of hot drinks, and as a result of this, I probably (definitely) drink too much coffee.

Food: Vietnamese, Thai (authentically spicy! Hard to find in London, hook me up if you know somehwere, so far all I know is a place in Newcastle), Lebanese, Turkish, Chinese (especially Sichuan or Xi'an), Ghanian, Indian, Ethiopian, Japanese, Italian, pretty much everything, I love trying new things and London is a great city for this. Fine dining is a lovely indulgence, but I am really most interested in how the food tastes, and not keen on stiff, overbearing service, if we are eating somehwhere like that the food better be exceptional, and it mostly isn't. I really enjoy food, I guess I am a "foodie" but I am not so keen that word as I dislike food snobbery. I also love to cook and bake, currently experimenting with fermentation (my kitchen smells weird). Favourite restaurants: Kiln, Xi'an Expression, Hoppers, Som Saa, Morito, Pidgin, Lyles, Mildreds. For something more lavish: St. John, Sketch, Clove Club, Hide, Core by Clare Smyth.

Turn-ons: KISSING, anticipation; soft, gentle, drawn out touching, that you almost can't feel. Feeling safe enough to be present with another person, intimacy and connection. Most of the time I like to experiment and explore and I certainly have done this with regards to my sexuality, but in doing so I discovered that the vitally important qualities needed when I engage in a sexual experiences of any kind are intimacy and connection, which requires trust and open, honest communication. For me that is what keeps things fresh and exciting. This is where my interest in Tantra developed as I found it helped develop my experience of sex from being just a way to achieve a quick release (which is fine but can become a little empty) into something much more fulfilling with infinite possibility. I do like to indulge myself with variety now and again, but if you took those qualities away I think I find that eventually even the most debauched activities start to feel dull and hollow.

Destination: I’m a big fan of city breaks, I love wandering around exploring, enjoying the unique atmosphere of a place, the architecture, stopping to eat, watching the people go by. My favourite cities are Melbourne, Barcelona, NYC, Lisbon, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Bangkok and now London, it has finally grown on me.

Perfume: I have started to become a bit of a perfume enthusiast and my collection is ever expanding. Favourites are from Diptyque (Vetyverio & Fleur de Peau), Tom Ford (Santal Blush & White Suede), Juliet has a Gun (Not a perfume), and Le Labo (Ambrette 9).

Art/photography: Amrita Sher-gil, Lisa Brice, Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud, Marlene Dumas, Francis Bacon, Philip Gustan, Alexsandra Waliszewska, David Shrigley, Robert Crumb, Egon Schiele, Ren Hang, Bruce Gilden (older stuff), Nan Goldin, Noboyoshi Araki (or as someone commented recently, “All the perverted stuff.”)

Writers: I just realised I mostly read non-fiction these days, not sure when that happened! Authors of some of my favourite books are: Vladimir Nabokov, Milan Kundera, Oscar Wilde, Oliver Sacks, Iain M. Banks, Alan Bennett, Emily Bronte, Roddy Doyle, Stephen Donaldson, Donna Tartt & Cormac McCarthy.

Directors: Hirokazu Kore-eda, Kenji Mizoguchi, Pedro Almodovar, Michael Haneke, Nicole Holofcener, David Lynch, Alexandro Jodorowsky, Asghar Farhadi, Wong Kar Wai, Paul Thomas Anderson, Hayao Miyazaki, Adam Curtis, Celine Sciamma, Wes Anderson, Agnes Varda, Erol Morris, The Coen Brothers, Terry Zwigoff.

TV: I don’t seem to have time for TV these days, especially as I am a terrible binger, so I try and avoid exposing myself when possible, lest I (inevitably) fall in and lose a few days/weeks and my schedule goes to pot (Update 2020: It is now my main past time). I love The Wire (my favourite), The Sopranos, Louie, Mad Men, Atlanta, Twin Peaks, Alan Partridge, Rick & Morty, The Thick of It, Succession and anything to do with Chris Morris.

Hobbies/Interests: Cooking, fine and not so fine dining, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Neurology... how the world and it's inhabitants work basically! Fermenting, gardening, films, photography, volunteering and feeling I am useful to my community, hiking and long, aimless walks, I like exploring, whether it is with my brain or my body, I try to stay curious.
